Founding member of the New Patriotic Party Kwame Pianim has made a highly controversial statement at the official launch of Prof Frimpong Boateng’s campaign to become flag bearer for the NPP.
The renowned economist said, “If you want a leader who is corrupt and incompetent, go and look for any of the candidates, we are not looking for a flag bearer, any idiot can hold the flag.”
He continued by touting Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s credential as a modern man who is in tune with science and technology, and not others who cannot even access an email on the net. Moreover, Mr Pianim said the candidate is not in the league of scholars who only analyze problems to the extent of having “constipation of analysis” without any pragmatic actions to move the country forward.
He concluded by saying that, “We in Ghana have gone all around, we have been around for 50 years, looking for the common enemy, looking for how to resolve our problems, we kill one another, fight one another, our problem is to get a leader who listens, a leader who acts with vigour, thank God you are here to witness the finding of such a leader, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.”
His utterance has already drawn a lot of backlash mainly from the camps of the other aspiring flag bearers.
General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says the party will listen to the tape that has Mr. Pianim’s statement carefully before taking any action. |
