President John Evans Atta-Mills has left Accra to Nigeria to officially offer his condolence to the family of the late President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Umaru Yar’Adua. He will also use the opportunity to congratulate newly sworn in President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan upon assumption of office.
Speaking on the president’s departure, communications director at the presidency, Koku Anyidoho said, “the president was away on official duty in Equatorial guinea when news broke of the death of his colleague president. This is therefore the first opportunity the president is having to directly mourn with the people of Nigeria. He will also use the opportunity to congratulate newly sworn-in president, Godluck Jonathan upon assumption of power and see how we can further entrench the relationship between the two countries.
Ghana will also exchange pleasantries with newly nominated vice president H. E. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, who is however yet to be approved by the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Mohammed Namadi Sambo is the Governor of Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria.
The delegation is said to include some ministers of state and other government functionaries and is due back later in the day. |
