| WHEN NYANTAKYIE LEAVES |
The chairman of the Premier League Board of Ghana, Welbeck Abrah-Appiah has surprisingly given a definite time by which he will be leaving his post.
Speaking to Kwaku Sintim-Misah on his weekend personality show, Thank God Its Friday on Metro Tv, the experienced administrator is quoted as saying when asked the question of his departure that, “There is a limit to everything but I must say that, the day Kwasi Nyantakyie (GFA President) leaves, I will also leave, that’s a promise”.
The 65 year old retired banker was given the appointment by the FA’s president upon assuming office in 2005.
During his era, the Premier League has seen significant changes such as sponsorship, the reduction of match officials, registration of players and the choice of match venues to name a few.
He however conceded that the level of patronage of the local league is very disappointing and attributed it to crowd violence and hooliganism. He also bemoaned the large number of players registered by a team, saying it makes it extremely difficult to market these players resulting in the lost of excitement in the local league.
He strongly believes that if clubs cut down the number of players they register and market them well, fans will be urged to go and watch the matches and will automatically bring back the excitement that was characterized with the league in years gone past. |
